Core Framework

These mathematical constructions form a research program, not a set of proven theorems. Each has a tier indicating how secure its foundation is. Epsilon > 0 on all of them.

Principal Relation: [Tier 1 ground + Tier 2 conditional]

Exists 1 <-> All D in
Something exists (Tier 1: secure -- denial requires a denier). The bidirectional relation and observer-inside (in) require additional premises (Tier 2: under formal review).
Translation: Something exists <-> all distinctions <-> observer inside
What's secure: Exists 1 is the ground. What's conditional: the specific dynamic relation (<->) is the framework's proposal, not the only possible relation. See GROUND.md.
Dynamic equilibrium model -- a candidate structure, not a forced conclusion

The Core Observation: [empirically undeniable]

it -- identity at time t
Meaning: You are not the same person you were at five. Identity is time-indexed -- changing, flexible, continuous with who you were but not identical to it. The suffering starts when you treat the current it as permanent I. The proof is your own biography.
"I AM broken" -> "I am broken right now." Right now has a shelf life.

Awareness Structure: [Tier 2 model schema]

A = P - I
Pronunciation: "A equals P minus I"
Translation: Availability = Perspective - Identity-fusion mask
Meaning: For a given observer-configuration and boundary, P is held fixed. You don't gain perspective -- you release grip. The entire equation is about the denominator. Reducing I-fusion (the kappa move: I -> it) increases what's available. This is a model schema -- predictive content requires independent specification of P, I, and the mask rule.
The framework is about the denominator

The Kappa Notation: [Tier 3 fitted notation]

kappa: I -> it
Translation: The notation for intended re-description -- shifting from treating identity as permanent to recognizing it as time-indexed
Meaning: kappa names the move from "I AM this" to "this is happening right now." It is notation for a perspective shift, not a rate constant or mechanism. The shift is real (every contemplative tradition describes it). The notation is a label, not a law.
kappa: I -> it (adding the subscript, not erasing identity)

These are mathematical constructions for exploring consciousness dynamics. They converge with therapeutic approaches, which may reflect structural truth or may reflect pattern-matching -- both possibilities remain open (epsilon > 0).

Reflective Check-In

Three questions that replace the old equation. The suffering equations have been withdrawn -- they claimed more precision than the framework can support. What survives is the observation: when you treat a present state as permanent, suffering deepens. These three sliders help you notice what's happening.

The Three Reflective Questions

Instead of computing a score, notice where you are on each dimension. The reflection is the practice.

Nothing unusual Major life change
How big is the gap between what you expected and what arrived?
Rested / regulated Depleted / reactive
Sleep, stress, illness, substances -- anything that changes your baseline reactivity.
One thing happening Everything I am
The difference between "I failed this test" and "I AM a failure." The second fuses identity with event.
Reflection: Move the sliders to see a reflection based on your current state.

This is not a diagnostic tool. It generates reflective prompts, not scores. If you're in distress, please reach out to a professional or crisis resource above.

Identity Fusion Check

Core insight: The same situation can be experienced from two different positions. The situation doesn't change -- the relationship to it does.

Two Positions, Same Event

I-sub-1: "I am the difficulty"
- "I AM stressed/angry/broken"
- Identity fused with what's happening
- Experience feels overwhelming and personal
- Change feels impossible
I-sub-2: "I observe difficulty arising"
- "Difficulty is arising in awareness"
- Identity positioned observationally
- Experience feels more workable
- Change becomes possible

Why the Same Person Finds the Framework Variable

When fused (I-sub-1 position):
- "I AM this anxiety/depression/anger"
- Framework feels abstract, irrelevant, or overwhelming
- That's not a failure -- it's information about current positioning

When observing (I-sub-2 position):
- "Anxiety/depression/anger is arising as information"
- Framework feels immediately practical and accessible

The it insight: Both positions are temporary. You are not permanently fused. You are not permanently observing. Identity is time-indexed -- it, not I.

Interactive Check

Observing (I-sub-2) Fused (I-sub-1)
Current position: Mixed -- some fusion, some observation.
This is where most people are, most of the time. Epsilon > 0 means you never reach either extreme.

Framework accessibility varies with real-time positioning, not comprehension ability. If it feels abstract right now, that's data, not failure.

Bell Noticing: What's Happening Right Now?

The Bell is a metaphor: your body sends signals about what's happening. This slider helps you notice the current signal -- not compute it, just notice it.

The Practice

Notice current emotional activation
- How activated does your system feel right now?
- Are you inside this activation or observing it?
- Can you recognize activation as information, not identity?

Two Positions on the Same Activation

I-sub-1: "I am the activation"
- "I AM stressed/angry/broken"
- Activation feels like identity
- Higher reported suffering
I-sub-2: "I observe activation arising"
- "Activation is present in awareness"
- Activation feels like information
- Lower reported suffering
Low activation High activation
Activation level: 50% (moderate)

This measures your subjective sense of activation. The practice is noticing, not computing.

A = P - I Interactive Exploration

Framework Application: Explore the core equation A = P - I (Availability = Perspective - Identity) through direct parameter manipulation.

Core Equation: A = P - I
Availability = Perspective - Identity-fusion. P is held fixed for a given observer-configuration. You don't gain P; you release I.

Framework Context: These parameters connect to the existential math framework. Adjust based on your current state assessment. This is exploratory, not measurement.

Parameter Definitions:

Ps - Observable space: How many perspectives/aspects can you notice right now?
Range: Tunnel vision (1-3) -> Multi-dimensional awareness (8-10)

Pb - Actionable space: How many response options feel available to you?
Range: Stuck/reactive (1-3) -> Multiple choice pathways (8-10)

I - Identity fusion: How fused are you with your current experience?
Framework connection: Higher I reduces A (availability); the kappa move (I -> it) works on this parameter
Range: Transparent observer (1-3) -> Complete identity fusion (8-10)

K - Sensitivity: How amplified/reactive do you feel right now?
Range: Dampened response (1-3) -> Amplified sensitivity (8-10)

H - Uncertainty: How uncertain/chaotic does your inner experience feel?
Framework connection: Epsilon > 0 experienced as confusion/not-knowing
Range: Clear/organized (1-3) -> High uncertainty/chaos (8-10)

S - Strain: How much effort to maintain current configuration?
Range: Effortless flow (1-3) -> High maintenance energy (8-10)

Framework-Informed Practice Sequence

Framework Application: A four-step approach grounded in the core observation that identity is time-indexed (it) and that treating a present state as permanent deepens suffering.

Step 0: Reflective Check-In (Framework Gateway)

Three questions before engaging framework:
- Encounter: What changed? How big is the gap between expected and arrived?
- Amplification: How amplified does it feel? Am I depleted, reactive, or regulated?
- Fusion: Am I treating this as permanent? Is this "one thing happening" or "everything I am"?

If highly fused, start here. The reflective questions are the entry point, not equations.
  1. Expand P (Perspective): Access available space
    Framework operation: Increase both Ps (observable) and Pb (actionable)
    Practice: Notice thoughts, feelings, sensations, situation -- expand awareness
    Emotional component: Include emotions as information in perspective expansion, not obstacles to it

  2. Reduce I (Identity fusion): Apply the kappa move
    Framework operation: kappa: I -> it (walls become windows through recognition)
    Practice: Notice what feels solid/stuck; recognize as configuration, not self
    Emotional component: Specifically notice emotional fusion -- "I AM angry" -> "anger is arising right now"

  3. Recognize the time-indexing: it, not I
    Framework operation: You've always been changing. This state is time-indexed.
    Practice: Ask: "Was I feeling exactly this way five years ago? Will I be feeling exactly this way five years from now?"
    The it insight: If the answer is no, then this is it, not I. Present state, not permanent identity.

Framework Accessibility Check:

After the sequence, notice: Does the framework feel operationally meaningful or abstract? This indicates current positioning. If still abstract, return to Step 0 -- more reflective check-in work may be needed, or this may not be the right tool for right now.

This sequence applies framework concepts as practical exploration. Some people report utility, but this remains an arbitrary construction for investigation.
